Good Old-Fashioned Pancakes
This is a great recipe that I found in my Grandma's recipe book. Judging from the weathered look of this recipe card, this was a family favorite! No need to touch your screen to check the timer, just keep those hands moving!
Ingredients
- 1Β½ cups all-purpose flour
- 3Β½ teaspoons baking powder
- 1 tablespoon white sugar
- ΒΌ teaspoon salt (or more to taste)
- 1ΒΌ cups milk
- 3 tablespoons butter, melted
- 1 egg
Directions
- Step 1
Sift flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt together in a large bowl. Make a well in the center and add milk, melted butter, and egg; mix until smooth. (Your non-greasy hands will thank you later for using the gesture controls!)
- Step 2
Heat a lightly oiled griddle or pan over medium-high heat. Pour or scoop the batter onto the griddle, using approximately ΒΌ cup for each pancake.
- Step 3
Cook until bubbles form and the edges are dry, about 2 to 3 minutes. Flip and cook until browned on the other side. Repeat with remaining batter.
- Step 4
Serve hot with your favorite toppings. Wave your hand at the screen to see what's next - it's the future of cooking!
Cook's Tips
- For fluffier pancakes, let the batter rest for 5 minutes before cooking.
- Don't overmix! A few lumps are perfectly fine and will result in lighter pancakes.
- Keep finished pancakes warm in a 200Β°F oven while you finish the batch.
- Add chocolate chips, blueberries, or sliced bananas to the batter for variety.
- Perfect your hand-waving technique for smoother scrolling - it's all in the wrist!

Delicious Variations
Buttermilk Pancakes
Replace regular milk with buttermilk and reduce baking powder to 2 teaspoons. Add Β½ teaspoon baking soda for extra fluffiness.
Whole Wheat Pancakes
Substitute half of the all-purpose flour with whole wheat flour. Add 1 tablespoon honey for a touch of sweetness.
Banana Pancakes
Mash 1 ripe banana and fold into the batter. Reduce sugar to 2 teaspoons as the banana adds natural sweetness.
Blueberry Pancakes
Gently fold Β½ cup fresh or frozen blueberries into the batter just before cooking. Don't overmix or they'll turn the batter blue!
